Nick Saban continues building his new-look coaching staff at Alabama.

The latest hire, per FootballScoop, is Mississippi State defensive line coach Brian Baker. Baker has coached at Mississippi State the last three years — one under Joe Moorhead and two under Dan Mullen. Prior to his stop at Mississippi State, Baker coached with the Redskins, Cowboys and Browns, among others in the NFL. The Bulldogs defensive line was one of the most dominant position groups in the country in 2018, and it’s obvious why Baker would be targeted.

The interesting thing is though that Saban already has a defensive line coach on staff in Craig Kuligowski, who isn’t expected to return in 2019. Following the Baker hire, it appears that will indeed be the case.

Following Alabama’s loss to Clemson, five on-field assistants have left Alabama in Mike Locksley (Maryland), Dan Enos (Miami), Josh Gattis (Michigan), Brent Key (Georgia Tech) and Tosh Lupoi (Cleveland Browns). There have been multiple reports of Saban hiring new assistants, but the University of Alabama hasn’t released the official information yet.

Baker will also be the second assistant Saban has hired from Mississippi State recently. Alabama already hired Charles Huff earlier this month.
