Last year, the San Francisco 49ers traded back into the first round of the NFL Draft to select former Alabama LB Reuben Foster with the No. 31 overall pick.

Foster took some time to recover from an injury, but he was good when he was on the field last season. However, this offseason, he has been arrested on a couple of occasions, one for a serious charge of domestic violence.

The 49ers are keeping him away from the team while the legal process runs its course, but on Monday, 49ers GM John Lynch said if the allegations are true, Foster won’t be with the 49ers anymore (via Pro Football Talk):

“The gravity of these charges has not been lost on us,” Lynch said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “We take it extremely seriously. We do feel like patience is the right approach right now. We’re gonna learn things through this legal process. I do want to be abundantly clear that if these charges are proven true, if Reuben did indeed hit this young lady, he will not be part of this organization going forward.”

Foster has been troublesome for the 49ers, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them cut ties with the former Crimson Tide star.

The legal process could drag on for a while, though, so it could be some time before the 49ers make their final decision on the young linebacker.
