Tony Mitchell was suspended by Alabama Monday night after details of his Wednesday arrest were revealed. According to a report from AL.com, Mitchell was arrested last Wednesday in Florida after fleeing from law enforcement at speeds of up to 141 MPH.

He was found to be in possession of 226 grams of marijuana, while passenger Christophere Lewis was charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a permit. Police also found $7,000 in cash along with the loaded gun.

According to a police report, Mitchell admitted to fleeing law enforcement and said Lewis told him to “punch it.”

Alabama head coach Nick Saban took swift action, suspending the freshman until Alabama learns more about the situation. Saban also noted, “Everybody’s got an opportunity to make choices and decisions. There’s no such thing as being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Mitchell signed with Alabama on Dec. 9 and is rated as the No. 9 overall safety in the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports.
