A trio of true freshmen are staples on Alabama’s defense through two weeks.

Shane Lee, Christian Harris and DJ Dale are already making impacts on Nick Saban’s talent-filled unit. Two of the three — Lee and Harris — were thrust into the spotlight after injures suffered to starters.

Lee plays inside linebacker and was named a starter following Dylan Moses’ season-ending injury. Harris was promoted earlier in fall camp following the season-ending injury to senior Joshua McMillon.

Through two weeks, Lee is third on the team with 11 total tackles behind Xavier McKinney and Raekwon Davis. Harris is tied for fifth with seven tackles. Lee and Harris have big futures, but perhaps Dale is the star freshman. The run-stuffing lineman has recorded five tackles.

So, ahead of Saturday’s game, Will Muschamp has been watching lots of film on the Crimson Tide, and he broke down the freshman trio Wednesday on the SEC Coaches’ Teleconference.

On DJ Dale: “He’s got really good flexibility with his lower body, plays with a lot of power, but he’s very athletic and can get off blocks. He’s a really good player right now, but he’s going to be a great one as they move forward.”

On Lee and Harris: “Both linebackers (Lee and Harris) are athletically what you want, instinctively what you want. It’s just a matter of getting the number of turns and reps, and that’s what they’re needing right now. But they’re really good players.”

Muschamp will get a first-hand look at that trio Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
