If you look at Arkansas’ schedule for the 2018 season, you should quickly notice something is missing. The Razorbacks are not scheduled to play a Power 5 opponent during the non-conference slate.

SEC teams are required to play at least one Power 5 non-conference opponent every season but Arkansas was granted a waiver from the league after Michigan dropped a scheduled home-and-home series with the Razorbacks back in 2016. One of those games would have taken place in 2018, but instead, Arkansas will travel to Colorado State to play the Rams in the place of the Wolverines.

While CSU is not currently a Power 5 program, the team’s head coach seems to take exception to anyone believing his program is not equal to a Power 5 school.

During a recent appearance on CBS Denver, Mike Bobo shared his belief that for all intents and purposes, Colorado State is indeed a Power 5 program.

“I believe we are a Power 5 university academically. I believe we are a Power 5 university athletically — and not just facilities wise. I know we have a Power 5 coaching staff and that’s the way I recruit,” Bobo said.

“I walk into homes and present ourselves as being the best place in the country. Part of that is salesmanship but part of that is what I believe. I would not have taken at Colorado State in Fort Collins if I did not believe this could not be one of the premier institutions in the United States. I feel that way and I’ve had numerous people, not just me, but families and dads (say), ‘This is every bit, you just don’t have the label of Power 5,’ and I believe that. That’s how we go about our business.”

Before you poke fun of what Bobo said, keep in mind that his program did destroy Oregon State 58-27 in 2017 and went on to put up 23 points on the road at Alabama. The only teams to score that many points on the Crimson Tide last season were Mississippi State, Auburn, and Georgia — and the Bulldogs needed overtime just to match that number.

If Bobo truly believes what he says, the Razorbacks have to be careful, otherwise, they could find themselves on upset alert Week 2 when the team travels to Fort Collins for the Sept. 8 game.
