Bobby Petrino reportedly being vetted for open SEC offensive coordinator position
Bobby Petrino is reportedly in the mix to return to Arkansas as an offensive coordinator.
Petrino, who was on Jimbo Fisher’s staff as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M this past season, is being vetted at Arkansas, and according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, has indicated in the recruiting space that he’s in the mix for an SEC coordinator job.
Petrino was fired at Arkansas after he lied about a motorcycle accident involving a female staffer and failed to disclose when she was hired that the 2 were in an extramarital relationship.
On the field at Arkansas, Petrino twice won at least 10 games with the Razorbacks, including two New Year’s Six bowl appearances, but he was fired in 2012.
Most recently, before being the OC with the Aggies, Petrino was 18-15 over the previous 3 seasons at FCS Missouri State, and was initially hired in December as an OC for UNLV coach Barry Odom’s staff.
Petrino was highly successful with a record of 119-56 over 14 seasons as an FBS head coach, and coached Louisville to 8 bowl appearances over 2 stints and Arkansas to 3 bowls. Under Petrino, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson won the Heisman Trophy in 2016.
He signed a 10-year contract before the 2006 season with Louisville but left a year later for the Atlanta Falcons. After a 3-10 start in 2007, he left for Arkansas.
