It was a new week, and a different quarterback to find a hot hand for Arkansas. But that didn’t last much more than a quarter, and that was just one of the problems in the second half for the Razorbacks.

Ultimately, Colorado State scored 25 unanswered points capped by a one-yard run by Izzy Matthews with eight seconds left for a 34-27 victory. That ended a six-play, 59-yard drive that took 2:30 off the clock. The Rams outscored the Razorbacks 17-0 in the fourth quarter.

QB Cole Kelley started the second half, and began 2-for-3 for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the third quarter, but then the offense stalled in the fourth quarter. Ty Storey, who started the game, was 5-for-13 for 36 yards and two interceptions. But despite Kelley’s fast start, the offense struggled to get a first down late, and Colorado State scored 18 straight points to force a tie, including a two-point conversion.

After the Rams tied the game at 27, Kelley was sacked on third down for a 12-yard loss.

Colorado State was completely one-sided for much of the game. With 9:22 left in the fourth quarter, the Rams had 320 yards passing and zero rushing yards on 17 carries.

Outside of the quarterback carousel, the second quarter appeared to be a field goal competition as each team made two kicks for a 13-9 Arkansas lead at the break.

It appeared Arkansas would pull away midway through the third quarter when T.J. Hammonds scampered down the left sideline for a 64-yard touchdown.

But while leading 27-9, the Razorbacks left WR Preston Williams wide open in the back of the end zone, and QB K.J. Carta-Samuels found him from four yards out.

Then on the ensuing drive, Arkansas punted after five plays, and the Rams responded with a nine-play 96-yard scoring drive when Carta-Samuels found Williams again.

Arkansas will play host to North Texas next week.
