Even though Arkansas was a big player in the coaching carousel last year, the Razorbacks aren’t escaping the fray this offseason.
Coming off a 2-10 campaign, an Arkansas assistant is reportedly in the mix for the open head coaching job at FCS Stephen F. Austin.
Per FootballScoop.com, Arkansas assistant head coach Jeff Traylor is one of the top candidates for the job:
Traylor, an SFA alum, is an ultra-successful East Texas high school coach who did not join the college ranks until 2015, when he joined Charlie Strong’s Texas staff. After that staff was fired following the 2016 season, Traylor joined Chad Morris’ staff at SMU and then followed him to Arkansas, where he serves as associate head coach and running backs coach.
Obviously, a chance to be a head coach — at his alma mater, no less — would likely be too good to pass up for Traylor.
That would be a tough loss for Chad Morris’s staff, but the decision from SFA is far from final.
