Sam Pittman is returning to Arkansas for the 2024 football season, according to a new report.

Matt Zenitz of 247Sports shared Sunday morning that Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek informed players that he’s sticking with Pittman after the Razorbacks’ Week 12 win over FIU.

Pittman is in his 4th season as Arkansas’ head coach. The Hogs did not expect a losing season in 2023, but Pittman is getting a Year 5 to try to right the ship.

After 4 seasons as an assistant at Georgia, Pittman returned to Arkansas ahead of the 2020 season. Despite a 3-7 showing in the all-SEC 2020 season, Arkansas was highly praised for the notable improvement shown under Pittman compared to the lows of the Chad Morris era.

The best season under Pittman so far has been 2021. In Year 2, the Razorbacks went 9-4, defeating Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Mizzou before defeating Penn State in the Outback Bowl. The 2022 team again made a bowl game again, but posted a 7-6 overall record.

Pittman had to replace both his coordinators for the 2023 season after Barry Odom took the head coaching job at UNLV and Kendal Briles accepted a position at TCU. Pittman turned to Dan Enos, his former Arkansas colleague from the Bret Bielema days, as offensive coordinator. Enos was let go after just 8 games.

Arkansas is 4-7 on the season. The Razorbacks finish out at home against No. 9 Mizzou in the Battle Line Rivalry.
