Auburn clinches historic run of futility in SEC play with loss to Vanderbilt
Auburn and coach Hugh Freeze have had an up-and-down season to say the least, but it may have hit its lowest point on Saturday in a 17-7 home loss to Vanderbilt.
With the loss, the Tigers are guaranteed to have at least 5 SEC losses in 4 consecutive seasons. The last time that happened at Auburn was from 1927-1930 — nearly a century ago.

This is the seventh season that Freeze has coached in the SEC, including his time at Ole Miss. With the loss on Saturday, Freeze has now 5 seasons with at least 5 losses in SEC play.
Hugh Freeze is now 1-6 in SEC home games as the Auburn head coach.
Freeze is now 0-3 against Diego Pavia to the tune of 97-31.
For the 5th time in 7 years as an SEC head coach, including both years at Auburn, Freeze will not have a winning SEC record.

During Freeze’s first season, Auburn showed some potential as they went 6-7 last year. In last year’s Iron Bowl, they showed they could play with Alabama. If not for a miraculous 4th and Goal from the 31 yard-line, the Tigers would have won the game. There was hope the team could take the next step in 2024. However, at 3-6, they are going to need to pull some upsets if they are going to be able to get to a bowl.
The Tigers have 3 games left on the season, with their final 2 games being against Texas A&M and at Alabama. They will be off next week, before playing on November 16th against UL-Monroe.
