Bryan Harsin is getting a hefty buyout to leave Auburn as its football coach.

Harsin, who was hired at Auburn with a 6-year contract in December 2020, was nearly fired after the 2021 season, is under .500 with Harsin as head coach. Now that the Tigers are 3-5 on the year, a move has been made, and it came the same day that John Cohen resigned as Mississippi State’s athletics director to reportedly take the same job at Auburn.

Harsin signed a six-year, $31.5-million contract, which more than tripled his Boise State salary for 2020 ($1.75 million) and came 10 days after Auburn fired Gus Malzahn and paid him a $21.7-million buyout.

Harsin’s contract called for if he’s fired on Dec. 31, 2022, he’s due 70% of his annual salary from 2023-26 ($21.4 million), which is approximately $15 million, per BetMGM.

After the loss to Arkansas on Saturday, this is the third straight season Auburn has suffered at least 5 losses.
