Bryan Harsin has been out of coaching since a disappointing spell at Auburn ended 8 games into his second season.

He could be headed back to the sidelines, though, although not as a head coach. Harsin is a candidate for the vacant offensive coordinator position at Cal, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

The Golden Bears completed their 8th season under Justin Wilcox with a 6-6 record, including a 2-6 mark in their first-ever season in the ACC. Mike Bloesch, hired to Wilcox’s staff as offensive line coach and running game coordinator in 2023, took over as offensive coordinator in 2024 after Jake Spavital took the same position at Baylor following a single season in Berkeley.

Shortly after the season ended, Wilcox announced upcoming changes to his coaching staff after Cal finished 9th in the ACC in yards per game, 7th in passing yards, 14th in rushing, and 13th in scoring.

And Harsin could be part of that staff in 2025. While he struggled at Auburn, he enjoyed a sensational run at Boise State, putting together a 69-19 record in 7 seasons. Prior to that, he was at Arkansas State for 1 season, going 7-5.

Harsin and Wilcox previously worked together at Boise State in 2001 and 2002. After three seasons as linebackers coach at Cal from 2003-2005, Wilcox rejoined the Broncos staff in 2006 as defensive coordinator, reuniting with Harsin, who had just been promoted to offensive coordinator.
