The ride is over for Cadillac Williams. However Auburn’s interim head coach is grateful for the journey.

Auburn concluded the season with a 49-27 to Alabama in the Iron Bowl. Williams finishes with a 2-2 record after taking over for Bryan Harsin.

Williams appreciated the opportunity to guide his alma mater.

“I mean, through this process, it made me a better person. A better husband, father, a better friend. It is powerful what you can do when you get people to believe and serve, and thinking about each other,” Williams said via 247Sports. “It’s powerful. So that the thing that I’m most happy for, having this opportunity.”

Williams praised Auburn’s 24 seniors and believes the program is headed in the right direction.

“Auburn is in a better place because of these seniors and the Auburn family,” Williams said via 247Sports. “Future is bright, very bright.”

Williams has served as Auburn’s running backs coach since 2019 after holding that role at other stops dating back to 2015. As a player at Auburn from 2001-04, Williams rushed for 3,831 yards and 45 touchdowns. Williams departed as Auburn’s all-time leading in rushing touchdowns.

Auburn is reportedly targeting Liberty’s Hugh Freeze for the head coaching position. Auburn finishes with a 5-7 overall record and 2-6 mark in SEC play.
