Cam Newton rejects 'underdog' narrative in latest social media post
Cam Newton has been busy on social media since parting with the Carolina Panthers. In his latest post, the free agent gets out in front of a potential narrative for the next chapter of his NFL career. Newton has a message for fans and media members: he isn’t an underdog.
“People love a good underdog story,” Newton wrote on Instagram in his usual unconventional font. “This ain’t that! (Expletive), I been a dog!”
The message is the caption to a post that features photos and videos from his latest throwing session. In the videos, Newton looks healthy and ready to play (hardly surprising as the post is from his personal account).
Where Newton will play next year remains to be seen. On FanDuel’s Sportsbook, the Los Angeles Chargers are the new betting favorites to land the former Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn at odds of -150 (wager $150 to win $100). Just a week ago, Washington, where he could reunite with Ron Rivera, was the favorite. The Redskins’ odds are now +1000 at FanDuel. The Jacksonville Jaguars (+470), Miami Dolphins (+470), Denver Broncos (+600), New England Patriots (+650), Las Vegas Raiders (+1200) and Pittsburgh Steelers (+2000) are the other available options at FanDuel.
