College GameDay is touching all of the high points heading into Week 0 of the college football season.

One of the biggest stories heading into the season is the Auburn Tigers and head coach Bryan Harsin. Auburn, of course, parted ways with Athletic Director Allen Greene. So, that puts more pressure on Harsin, especially depending on who Auburn hires for the vacant position.

New ESPN analyst Pete Thamel was asked about Harsin surviving another year at Auburn, and he explained why it will be difficult for that to happen.

“The pathway to Bryan Harsin to survive is difficult,” Thamel said on College GameDay. “He plays in the SEC West. Auburn’s roster isn’t what we remember Auburn’s roster being right now. Coming off a 6-7 season, I think it’s really important to remember they had the No. 13 ranked recruiting class in the SEC right now in the Composite Rankings – only ahead of Missouri.

“So, as Auburn’s power brokers look at Bryan Harsin’s future — in a time where Alabama usually has a top 3 class — that is going to stand out. Those same power brokers initiated an inquiry against him in February didn’t yield any other results. … They were essentially looking for a reason to fire him with cause. So, it’s been an awkward union that everyone expects to end somehow at the end of this season. Unless of course, they get hot and go 10-2 and beat Alabama.”

Will Harsin be the Auburn head coach entering the 2023 season?
