Bo Nix had a September (and Aug. 31) to remember, but the month of October has been up-and-down for Auburn and its quarterback. While only so much can be expected of a true freshman playing on the road in The Swamp and Death Valley, some have wondered if redshirt freshman Joey Gatewood might be the better fit as Auburn’s starting signal-caller.

In his Sunday press conference, AU coach Gus Malzahn was asked about the possibility of switching starting quarterbacks:

Reporter: Are you committed to Bo (Nix) being the starter from here on out?

Malzahn: “We’re going to do whatever is best for our team, but right now, a lot of the things — Bo has been put in some pretty tough situations. There were some things he wanted back, but there (were) also some things he did well. So, he’ll continue to improve, and that’s how we’re looking at it.”

Through eight games, Nix is 110-of-204 passing (53.9 completion percentage) for 1,458 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6 INT. Nix’s completion percentage was much lower in the two losses (40.7 percent at Florida; 42.9 percent at LSU). He has also recorded 62 rushes for 194 yards and 4 TDs.
