On Wednesday evening, Auburn coach Guz Malzahn opened up to the media for the first time since four players were arrested on misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana over the weekend.

Byron Cowart, Carlton Davis, Ryan Davis and Jeremiah Dinson were the accused, and their arrests took place at 11 p.m. CT at the 100 block of E. Samford Avenue. All four were released on a $500 bond and will appear in court June 21, according to the Lee County Detention Center.

Malzahn is still deciding on potential disciplinary action.

“Still gathering some information, but once we do, we’ll take care of it appropriately,” Malzahn said outside a booster club event, according to 247Sports.

According to Alabama Code, second-degree marijuana possession is a Class A misdemeanor and is related to a person who possesses marijuana for personal use only. Class A misdemeanors carry a sentence of no more than one year in jail and a maximum $6,000 fine.

The report also states that Malzahn would not say whether a drug arrest was comparable to a failed drug test as it pertains to the athletics department’s drug policy.

“I’m not going to get into all the details as far as that goes,” Malzahn said, “but obviously I’m disappointed that we had some players get arrested, but it’ll be taken care of.”
