Gus Malzahn taking heat for what he said about Auburn’s expectations following loss to Texas A&M
By Adam Spencer
Published:
The Auburn Tigers battled the No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies tough on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but ended up coming up short in a 31-20 loss
It was a good effort for the Tigers, but this isn’t a program that is interested in any sort of moral victories.
So, when coach Gus Malzahn talked about Auburn’s new goals for the season after the loss, it drew a lot of attention. Here’s what he said:
Auburn HC Gus Malzahn on the goal now: "6-4, that's what it will be. If we had a normal nonconference schedule, that's a solid year… Obviously, we're not happy that we weren't able to beat one of these ranked teams."

Let’s just say comments like that aren’t what Auburn fans want to hear. Here was some of the reaction to that quote:
admitting that he’s barely above .500 without the three cupcake games each year

I’ve never done drugs, but I imagine that this is the same feeling you get when on drugs

Solid yr?!!!! Please get him out Auburn administrators. Texas A & M is now a power. Georgia is better than Auburn. All these teams are passing Auburn by with Gus at the helm. I've had enough of him.

Losing 4 games is a "solid year?" Oooh Boy. Fanbase will throw up on that and pretty much sums up the biggest criticism of him. He accepts mediocrity.

SOLID year?? Perhaps he should have said his “regular” year of mediocrity pic.twitter.com/np2E5XGvX4

Can the Tigers turn things around in 2021? If they don’t, Malzahn may find himself on an even hotter seat.
