The Auburn Tigers took down Kentucky on Saturday night in Auburn, earning a huge win for their NCAA Tournament resume and also staying only 2 games behind LSU in the race for the SEC regular-season title.

The Tigers and Wildcats have taken part in a few great battles the past couple of seasons, so some are asking if the 2 teams are rivals now.

On Monday’s episode of “The Paul Finebaum Show,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said he doesn’t consider Kentucky a rival yet because the Tigers haven’t held up their end of the bargain over the years (via 247Sports):

“I’m just glad Auburn has become more competitive, and people ask, ‘Do you have a rivalry with Kentucky?’” Pearl said. “I say, ‘No, they’ve dominated the series for a long time, but if we can be competitive over the next few years, maybe we can develop a rivalry.’”

Will we see more from this budding rivalry in the SEC Tournament this year? We’ll find out in a few short weeks.
