Jalen Green just made a business decision that could be the start of a new trend in the sport of college and NBA basketball.

The five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American could have picked any college in the country to attend next season but instead of picking Auburn or Memphis, his two finalists, the Napa, Calif., native has announced he will play in the NBA G League next year.

247Sports Composite Rankings lists Green as the nation’s No. 3 overall prospect in the country and the No. 2 combo guard in the class. Green was previously committed to Michigan but decommitted before making his final decision.

In year’s past, the G League did not offer competitive salaries to elite high school basketball recruits, which likely played a part in most elite high school prospects picking college basketball or international professional leagues over the G League.

Now with the G Leauge offering up more competitive salaries, Green has made the decision to head to the minor league NBA system.
