Auburn appears to be losing some depth on the defensive line as former four-star recruit Jaren Handy has entered the NCAA transfer portal after two seasons on The Plains.

The Hattiesburg, Miss., native has played sparingly during his two seasons with Auburn but he did manage to record his first career sack in the Iron Bowl last season.

News of Handy’s decision to enter the transfer portal was first reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

Handy signed with Auburn as a four-star member of the program’s 2019 recruiting class. He was rated as the nation’s No. 7 strongside defensive end. He signed with the Tigers over Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Ole Miss, among others.

While Handy has yet to make his impact felt on the field at the collegiate level, he has done enough to impress his teammates on the practice field.

During Marlon Davidson’s appearance at SEC Media Days back in 2019, the lineman was asked which true freshmen were standing out during camp. The first name Davidson mentioned was Handy.

“He’s showing me he’s just like me, he reminds me so much of me coming in — the fight, the want to be better, the want to be great. You don’t have certain kids like that but that kid reminds me so much of myself,” Davidson said when asked to explain why he’s so high on the freshman. “Every day, he just keeps doing it, keeps doing it. Every day, he’s getting better. I see a bright future for him.”
