Coming off a terrible loss at LSU, in a game that Auburn once held a 20-0 lead, things have just got worse for the Tigers — the team’s most talented receiver is no longer on the team.

According to a report from Brandon Marcello of 247Sports, receiver Kyle Davis has been dismissed by Auburn.

That report has been confirmed by John Zenor of the AP, who claims Davis broke team rules.

Gus Malzahn officially announced the news during the opening of his Tuesday afternoon press conference.

“Okay, just starting out, just want everyone to know Kyle Davis has been dismissed from our team. For breaking team rules. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Davis did not make Auburn’s trip to LSU. Following the game, coach Gus Malzahn was asked why the talented receiver did not make the trip. All Malzahn would say was, “That’s between him and me.”

Davis was a four-star prospect in the 2016 recruiting cycle and chose Auburn over Tennessee and South Carolina. In his two abbreviated seasons with Auburn, Davis caught 19 passes for 458 yards and two touchdowns.

While his stats were not gaudy, he flashed his massive potential on a number of occasions, making spectacular catches seem routine. He was emerging as the team’s No. 1 target on the outside this season but now Auburn will have to find ways to manufacture production from its receiving corp without him.
