The Jarrett Stidham hype train is picking up some steam this summer.

Bettors are continuing to warm up to the Baylor transfer and his new team this offseason, according to odds shared on Twitter by college football analyst Bruce Feldman. Sportsbook William Hill has Stidham at 12:1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy, making him a top-eight candidate. With Stidham already in the Heisman conversation, it’s not surprising to see Auburn’s national championship odds jump from 50:1 to 22:1. Bettors and handicappers aren’t alone in helping hype Stidham, as Sports Illustrated notably ranked him a spot ahead of Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year, on its list of the 100 best players in college football entering 2017.

It’s easy to see why people are high on Stidham and consider the Tigers a potential national champion. In the Tigers’ spring game, the Baylor transfer aired it out going 16-of-20 for 267 yards, earning A-Day MVP honors.

Stidham has a supporting cast with potential to put up big numbers this fall. Auburn has recruited well at wide receiver over the years, as blue-chip pass-catchers Ryan Davis, Darius Slayton, Nate Craig-Myers, Kyle Davis and Eli Stove all return to makeup a talented receiving corps. It doesn’t hurt to have leading SEC rusher Kamryn Pettway in the backfield, either.

Auburn fans might be understandably nervous about the hype this offseason. In 2015, Jeremy Johnson was hyped as a Heisman candidate during the offseason, and we all know how that ended up. Perhaps the change at offensive coordinator from Rhett Lashlee to Chip Lindsey will help Stidham’s Auburn career turn out better than Johnson’s time on the Plains.
