College basketball game halted by kids hilariously throwing mini basketballs

Friday night’s college basketball game between Iona and Fairfield in Fairfield did not exactly go as expected. And that had nothing to do with the play of either team.

Instead, it had everything to do with an on the court incident that did not involve players, but rather a group of children within the crowd. Seemingly, they weren’t huge fans of the 2-possession game entering the final minutes of the matchup.

At the 1:34 mark in the second half, children can be seen throwing mini basketballs onto the court. That’s one way to get the crowd involved, one could say.

Here’s a look at the moment, in which Fairfield was leading Iowa, 62-57. Of course, the game had to be halted and the culprits in the crowd had their moment on some quality TV.

Iona entered the game with a 5-10 overall record, while Fairfield held a 5-9 overall record. It was the Stags that ultimately came away with the close 68-64 victory on their home court. Regardless of how the rest of the season plays out for both teams, one thing that is almost for certain is that neither of them will encounter anything quite like what they experienced when it rained mini basketballs on Friday evening.

Fairfield will move forward on the schedule with a road matchup against Marist on Sunday a 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 12.
