The U reached the Final Four in 2023, but even before then, Miami’s basketball program was a factor for years.

Naismith Hall of Famer and first-team All-American Rick Barry played for the Canes, after all.

The Hurricanes joined the ACC in in 2004 and have made the NCAA Tournament seven times since then. In 2012-13, The U rose as high as No. 2 in the AP poll and won the ACC regular-season and ACC Tournament.

Much of that success came under Jim Larranaga, who retired after the 2024-25 season with a program-record 274 wins.
