Arik Gilbert, former LSU and Georgia tight end, arrrested on burglary charges
Arik Gilbert, the former LSU and Georgia tight end who is now on the roster at Nebraska, has been arrested on burglary charges, the latest misstep for the former 5-star recruit.
According to a police report, Gilbert was charged on Friday with burglary and obstruction in Lumpkin County, Ga., about 65 miles north of Atlanta.
This is the 2nd burglary charge Gilbert has faced in the last several weeks. On Aug. 29, in Lincoln, he allegedly broke into a liquor and vape shop not far from the University of Nebraska campus. Officers determined that the amount of the merchandise taken was in excess of $1,600.
Gilbert’s career started with plenty of promise in 2022 as he was an SEC All-Freshman pick after making 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns. He then transferred to Georgia but didn’t play in 2021 before appearing in just 3 games in 2022.
Ahead of the 2023 season, he transferred to Nebraska, where he has been awaiting a decision from the NCAA regarding his eligibility since he had already taken advantage of the 1-time transfer rule.
Unfortunately, this is another step in the wrong direction for Gilbert. We’ll see what this means for his future with the Cornhuskers.
