After a rough start to the season, Taulia Tagovailoa had a huge bounce back game for the Maryland Terrapins in their win over Minnesota on Friday night.

A week after a loss to Northwestern when he threw three interceptions and completed just 56 percent of passes, Tagovailoa had a big game in a 45-44 win over the Golden Gophers. Tagovailoa completed 26-of-35 passes for 394 yards, which was the 10th most single-game passing yards in school history and the most since Danny O’Brien passed for 417 yards against N.C. State in 2010, the Big Ten announced.

For that reason, he was named a co-Offensive Player of the Week in the conference. It also came the weekend that his brother, Tua Tagovailoa, got his first NFL start for the Miami Dolphins.

Tagovailoa also became the third Big Ten player in the last 20 seasons to notch 350 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a single game as Maryland beat Minnesota in overtime. It was an incredible comeback as Maryland had never won after trailing by 17 points in the fourth quarter.

He became the first Maryland quarterback to throw for 300 yards since Caleb Rowe against Virginia in 2013.

Tagovailoa also added 59 rushing yards, including a 39-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

It was such a remarkable performance for Maryland, that the last Maryland Offensive Player of the Week was Javon Leake on Oct. 29, 2018.
