College basketball AP Top 25: SEC program snags top seed in Week 6 poll

The top 2 teams in the country are from the SEC. Three of the top 5 teams in the country are from the SEC. Five of the top 10 teams in the country, you guessed it, hail from the SEC.
Continuing its domination of college basketball this season, the SEC landed 9 teams – over half of the conference – in the Week 6 AP Top 25 poll.
Tennessee is the newest No. 1 in the rankings, still undefeated with wins over Baylor and Louisville. The Vols, who have not been ranked No. 1 since 2019, can pick up another nice win over Illinois this Saturday.
Coming in right behind the Vols is Auburn, which has been a wrecking ball so far this year. The Tigers hold wins over Houston, UNC, Iowa State and Memphis, with their sole loss at the hands of No. 4 Duke at Cameron Indoor.
Speaking of Duke, there may be some controversy from this poll. Kentucky, ranked No. 5, beat Duke earlier in the year but still sits behind the Blue Devils in the rankings. The Wildcats fell to Clemson on the road this week but did just beat Gonzaga in a semi-road matchup.
Florida deserves a mention here too. The Gators have not played any elite competition quite yet, but they are one of just 8 teams that is still undefeated as of Dec. 9.
Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma (also undefeated!) and Texas A&M round out the SEC inclusions in the Top 25.
