Georgia State football coach Shawn Elliott expressed displeasure with SEC officials after a call that might have cost his team an upset win at Auburn on Saturday.

With his team clinging to a 24-19 lead late in the 4th quarter, a 19-yard pass from Auburn quarterback TJ Finley to John Samuel Shenker looked like it could be overturned on replay as the ball appeared to hit the ground.

Instead, replay officials confirmed the original ruling of a completed pass, which set up a 1st-and-goal situation for the Tigers, who scored the game-winning touchdown 3 plays later.

In his press conference after the game, Elliott, a former assistant coach in the SEC at South Carolina, didn’t hold back when asked about the call.

“They had a little bit of help on that review where the ball was incomplete,” Elliott said. “It should have been put back on the 30-yard line. But you know when you play in the SEC you gotta take the hits. And they gave us a real gut punch on that call. So we appreciate that.”

Added Elliott: “It’s a disappointing feeling, Sports can rip you apart. That was a tough one to lose.”
