Matt Campbell to interview for Chicago Bears head coaching job, per report
Matt Campbell is set to interview for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching job, according to a report.
That’s per the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs, who shared that news on Wednesday afternoon. Campbell has been Iowa State’s head coach since 2016 and is arguably the program’s most-accomplished coach in school history. He’s Iowa State’s all-time winningest head coach at 64 wins.
The Bears’ coaching vacancy is viewed as one of the best in the entire NFL. Chicago has last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams, leading a talented roster for 2025 and beyond. The Bears will also have the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Campbell does not have any experience coaching in the NFL, but he has been linked to a head coach vacancy at the pro level before. Campbell was rumored to be in the mix for the Detroit Lions job back in 2021.
If Campbell does leave, it would re-open the college football coaching carousel. Currently, all FBS jobs have been filled for 2025 but that is, as always, subject to change.
Campbell isn’t the only college coach to be linked to an NFL opening on Wednesday. North Carolina coach Bill Belichick is also expected to receive interest from NFL franchises, per a report. However, another report stated Belichick has “no plans” to leave Chapel Hill for an NFL job this offseason.
