Bill Belichick’s time in the NFL looked like it might be over this past season. With no NFL franchise willing to hire a head coach following the 2023 season, Belichick was not on a coaching staff during the 2024 season and surprised many when he took the North Carolina head coaching job.
Landing with the Tar Heels is the first collegiate head coaching job of Belichick’s career. And for anyone wondering if Belichick is seriously committed to building a college football program, it might not take very long to find out.
According to a Wednesday report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Belichick has received inquiries from at least 2 teams about a potential return to the NFL sidelines. Making the situation more intriguing, Pelissero reports one of those teams is the Las Vegas Raiders with new minority owner Tom Brady speaking with Belichick about a potential move to Vegas.
Belichick and Brady’s relationship is undeniable after the duo captured 6 Super Bowls while with the New England Patriots. According to Pelissero, Brady believes the Raiders’ situation will require a coach of Belichick’s expertise and knowledge.
The report also mentions that at least one other NFL team has contacted Belichick about a vacancy.
Belichick landed at North Carolina and has a buyout in his contract set at $10 million if the coach leaves prior to June 1, 2025. That figure is unlikely to deter any franchise seriously interested in Belichick as a head coach, so we’ll see where this develops moving forward.
