Michael Vick is one of the most legendary football players of all time. Vick first took his home state of Virginia by storm, dominating at Virginia Tech. The quarterback then went on to have a 13-year NFL career that included 4 Pro Bowl bids and several NFL records.
Vick has recently been working with FOX Sports, but reports came out on Tuesday that the legendary QB will be the next head coach of Norfolk State. This news comes as Vick was reportedly talking with Norfolk State and Sacramento State.
Now, it’s official that Vick will be the next head coach for the Spartans. It’s expected that Vick’s staff will have a “Hokies flavor,” given his connections to his alma mater.
Vick has no official coaching experience outside of a training camp internship with the Kansas City Chiefs. This is a homecoming for Vick, who grew up in nearby Newport News, VA.
The former QB will take over for Dawson Odums who was fired in November. Odums compiled a 15-31 record during his tenure at Norfolk State and led the team to a 4-8 mark in 2024. Since 2019, the Spartans have failed to finish higher than 4th out of 6 teams in the MEAC, so Vick will have a rebuilding effort on his hands.
From 1998-00 at Virginia Tech, Vick threw for 3,279 yards, rushed for 1,216 yards, and scored 38 total touchdowns. Vick was selected with the 1st pick in the 2001 NFL Draft and still holds the record for most career rushing yards by a QB.
