Ohio State is a significant favorite over Notre Dame in the national championship game.

Shortly after Ohio State put the finishing touches on a 28-14 win over Texas on Friday night in the Cotton Bowl, FanDuel opened up the betting for the national title game.

FanDuel lists the Buckeyes as 9.5-point favorites over the Irish as of publication. The total for the game has been set at 46.5 points.

This is a rather large spread considering its a national championship game. However, the Buckeyes have been favored by more than a touchdown in 10 of their 15 games so far this season. They were favored by 6 points against Texas on Friday night at the Cotton Bowl and ended up beating the spread.

This will be unchartered territory for Notre Dame if the line doesn’t come down. Notre Dame was only an underdog twice this season (Texas A&M and Penn State) and never by more than a field goal. Notre Dame has not been an underdog of 9 or more points since Sept. 3, 2022 when it faced Ohio State on the road in the very first game of the Marcus Freeman era.

Freeman, of course, is a former Ohio State player. He played linebacker for the Buckeyes during the Jim Tressel era.

Kickoff of the national championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
