Ohio State’s 2024 season wrapped up on Monday night with a National Championship Game win.

The win was the team’s first title since the 2014 season and the first for Ryan Day as head coach. To get to this point, the Buckeyes had to go through a gauntlet and it’s now the most impressive season of all time in one key category.

With the win over Notre Dame, the 2024 Buckeyes became the first team to ever record 5 wins over AP Top 5 opponents. The Buckeyes knocked off Penn State, Indiana, Oregon, Texas, and now Notre Dame. The previous record of 4 AP Top 5 wins was accomplished by 2019 LSU, 1967 USC, and 1943 Notre Dame.

Penn State and Notre Dame were both No. 3 at the time of Ohio State’s victories, while Indiana was No. 5, Oregon was No. 1, and Texas was No. 4.

This is an impressive record the Buckeyes can hang their hats on, and many will undoubtedly compare this team to some of the all-time greats. The 2019 LSU team, for example, is looked at as the golden standard of college teams in the recent era. Of course, that team went undefeated, but this Ohio State team had more impressive wins.

Additionally, the Buckeyes only seemed to get better once the Playoff started. The team beat Tennessee by 25, beat Oregon by 20, beat Texas by 14, and beat Notre Dame by 11. It was an impressive way for the team to end their decade-long title drought.
