Shedeur Sanders went into the Week 2 rivalry game against Nebraska with an extra edge. After the game, Sanders admitted he felt the game is a true rivalry for Colorado and claimed Huskers head coach Matt Rhule was attempting to disrespect the Buff during warmups.

“It was extremely personal,” Sanders said about the matchup in his postgame press conference. “We go out there to warm up, and you got the head coach for the other team trying to stand in the middle of the Buff. It’s okay if a couple of players do it, it’s fine. Just enjoy the scenery, but when you’ve got a whole team trying to disrespect it, I’m not going for that at all so I went in there and disrupted it.”

Sanders pointed out that moment is when he realized there was “extreme disrespect” on the part of the Huskers. He went on to claim Rhule shared some comments about his father, Deion Sanders, he didn’t agree with during the offseason.

“The coach said a lot of things about my pops, about the program, but now that he want to act nice — I don’t respect that because you’re hating on another man, you shouldn’t do that,” Sanders claimed. “It was just, all respect was gone for them and their program. I like playing against their DC, I like playing against them, but the respect level, it ain’t there cause you disrespected us first.”

While both head coaches were amicable during their weekly press conference, Rhule did throw a bit of shade after his first team meeting at Nebraska. Rhule claimed he wouldn’t have “a camera following me around” as a head coach, certainly a shot at Sanders for the way his early start in Boulder was documented.
