Tate Martell is in the news again. Once again, it’s not for his play on the field.

So why is Martell in the news again? The sophomore quarterback/receiver has taken a leave from Miami due to “health reasons” according to 247Sports.

The timing of this news is interesting, as Miami just announced N’Kosi Perry has been named the team’s new starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Pitt.

Whether or not Martell’s decision is related is unclear, but the timing is suspect. It should be noted Martell practiced all week and even met with the media following Tuesday’s practice.

Martell has appeared in four games this season for the Hurricanes, splitting his time at QB and WR.

Before enrolling at Miami, Martell signed with Ohio State. He had previously been committed to Washington and Texas A&M at times during his recruitment.
