While most of the coaching carousel talk at this point has centered on USC and LSU, the opening at Virginia Tech is likely to draw plenty of interest.

The Hokies parted ways with Justin Fuente earlier this week, but the program has shown it can win at a high level.

Under the direction of Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech contended for national championships and from 1999 to 2011 won more than 10 games in 11 of 13 seasons.

On Saturday, ESPN “College GameDay” crew members were asked about potential candidates for the Virginia Tech opening and Kirk Herbstreit offered up Billy Napier as his top choice for the Hokies.

“I think Napier at Virginia Tech,” Herbstreit said.

Napier is currently the head coach at Louisiana, where he has a 38-12 overall record in 4 seasons.

Th 42-year-old also has ACC experience, as he was an assistant coach at Clemson from 2006-2010.

Virginia Tech dropped to 5-6 on the season with its loss at Miami on Saturday night. It will need to win at rival Virginia next Saturday to qualify for a bowl game.
