Daily Drafts
Underdog has become a top player in the DFS drafts game. Every NFL weekend, and for every NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA slate, there are multiple options for daily drafts. Users can play small-field tournaments, head-to-head contests or bigger guaranteed prize pool (GPP) tournaments.
In this section, we’ll take a look at some of those daily draft options:
Head-to-Head
These drafts are exactly what they sound like — you vs. one other DFS player. You do a 2-person snake draft to pick your teams and then the player with the highest point total wins the entire prize pool. I’m a fan of $5 head-to-head contests where, after Underdog takes a $1 “rake,” the winner earns $9. It’s not fully doubling your money, but you only have to beat 1 other person in order to cash.
Small-Field Tournaments
Small-field tournaments are also popular on Underdog. For any given NBA slate of games, for example, you can enter drafts with 3 or 4 (or sometimes more) other people. These tournaments have bigger prize pools than a standard head-to-head battle, but obviously you have to beat more people in order to win cash.
Guaranteed Prize Pool Tournaments
GPPs are some of the most popular offerings on Underdog. You enter a large-field contest with as few as 1 and as many as 150 drafted teams and compete to win massive prizes. This is the Battle Royale NFL Week 18 main slate tournament for the 2023 regular season:
As you can see, these tournaments have massive numbers of players, but the top 15 finishers all take home at least $1,000. In the Battle Royale for Week 18, which has a $5 entry fee, the top 7,450 players out of all 45,000 entries win at least $10.
Other GPP Tournaments
Recently, Underdog has expanded daily NFL and NBA drafts to include “double-ups” and “multiplier” contests.
In “double-ups,” approximately half of the field doubles its entry fee. For example, in this NBA Free Throw double-up tournament, there are 1,128 spots for entries, and the top 500 finishers each double their $5 entry fee by winning $10.
Unlike other GPP tournaments, there are no massive payouts if you finish in the top 10. All you have to do is be in the top half (minus the 11.3% rake) and you double your money.
Multipliers are quite the opposite. You get a bunch of players in a tournament and then only the top 3 or top 5 actually win money. But they win 10x to 100x their entry fees. These are bigger payouts, obviously, but they’re much harder to win.

Pick’em Contests
Underdog pick’em contests are some of the best picks contests in the DFS world. The player stats are organized by sport, by game and by player. Some apps are confusing when it comes to sorting by particular categories, but Underdog has created one of the most seamless apps out there today.
You can play pick’em contests for every major professional sport, and in most states where Underdog Fantasy is legal, you can also make picks involving major college sports like college football and men’s and women’s basketball.
Here’s what it looks like when you win a pick’em contest:
I won that entry back on Thanksgiving, taking advantage of a “free square” involving Tony Pollard of the Dallas Cowboys. All he had to do was put up 1 total yard and I won that leg of my contest. He managed to do that, even though he had a tough 2023 season.
My entry fee of $4 netted me a 10x multiplier, so I won $40. Here’s a look at Underdog’s pick’em multiplier structure:
- 2-leg contest: 3x multiplier
- 3-leg contest: 6x multiplier
- 4-leg contest: 10x multiplier
- 5-leg contest: 20x multiplier
The 3-leg contests are a great value, as Underdog’s 6x multiplier is one of the best in the business. Some other DFS apps pay out 5x or 5.5x for 3-leg entries, but Underdog gives users value by bumping it to 6x. I usually like to play 3-leg contests best, but every now and then, a 4-leg contest calls my name, especially when there’s a free square or other discount involved.

Per Robert Linnehan of Sports Betting Dime, “Each sports betting applicant is required by the state to partner with either a North Carolina sports franchise, arena, NASCAR track, or PGA Tour course to be eligible for a license.” Thus, the partnership with a PGA Tour course like Sedgefield Country Club satisfies that requirement for Underdog.
