Florida scored a massive 41-39 win over South Carolina in Week 7 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Gamecocks and Gators went back and forth all game, accruing just under 1,000 yards of total offense.

Florida now has 5 wins on the season and faces a truly brutal stretch down the back half of the schedule that includes Georgia, LSU, Mizzou and Florida State.

Here are 3 takeaways from the Gators’ win over the Gamecocks.

Huge late comeback wins it for the Gators

The Gators offense initially slowed in the 2nd half after a monster first half.

Florida’s offense put up just under 300 yards of total offense to start out against the Gamecocks, entering the halftime break up 24-21. But Spencer Rattler’s big day was troublesome for the Gators out of the gate.

Before you knew it, USC was up 37-27.

But Florida didn’t give up. A few scoring drives against a tired Gamecocks defense eventually won it. Mertz connected with Ricky Pearsall for the game-winning score.

Graham Mertz finishes it off after a strong outing

Graham Mertz had a great outing Saturday against South Carolina.

The Wisconsin transfer completed 30 of his 48 passes for 423 yards and 3 touchdowns with 0 interceptions. But his final drive was his best of the day.

Facing the pressure in Columbia, Mertz led the Gators on a 9-play, 75 yards scoring drive right down the field against a South Carolina defense that struggled early but played well in the 2nd half.

Ricky Pearsall should get his flowers, too. The Gators wide receiver was incredible in that final drive and caught the eventual game-winning TD pass. He finished with 10 receptions for 166 yards and 1 touchdown.

Florida won 4th down when it counted

It helps to deliver when it counts, folks

Florida finished just 4-15 on 3rd down, but they were 3-4 on 4th down.

And who was it who delivered when the Gators needed it, facing 4th and 10 with no timeouts and the game on the line?

Who else?

Pearsall also caught a tipped pass and advanced it for a big gain, setting up the eventual TD connection.

Florida is now on a bye week and will face off against Georgia in the World’s Largest Cocktail Party on October 28.
