Anthony Richardson has been fighting for the starting quarterback job with the Indianapolis Colts as a rookie. The franchise selected the Florida product with the No. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft, and head coach Shane Steichen announced a decision on the starting QB battle Tuesday morning.

Steichen announced Richardson has done enough to win the battle, pointing to his playmaking ability and potential. The head coach also praised backup Gardner Minshew for his impact on Richardson.

“I’ll go ahead and start off. After evaluating training camp and the film and all that, I made a decision that Anthony will be the starting QB for us,” Steichen announced. “I like the progress he’s made, excited for his future and the playmaking ability he brings to this football team.

“With that being said, we’re super excited to have Gardner Minshew. Ultimate teammate, ultimate pro. Does everything right, grinds and grinds and grinds. He’s going to be great for Anthony. He’s been great for him all season and through training camp.”

Addressing the decision, Richardson admitted he feels ready:

“As of right now, I think I’m ready,” said Richardson. “But who am I to say if I’m ready or not?”

There’s no denying the potential of Richardson and his ability to make plays in the passing and ground game. Now, he’ll try to find consistency and prove he’s deserving of the starting job as a rookie.
