Billy Napier at his Monday press conference confirmed Brenton Cox Jr. was dismissed from the team, and added, “We’ve decided to move on.”

“I think being a football player at the University of Florida is a privilege,” Napier said.

Napier did not share specifics about the issue, and added, “It’s a cumulative effect.” Napier also said it’s “healthy thing for our team.”

A redshirt junior, Cox leads the team with 8 tackles for loss. He has 35 tackles, 2 sacks and 9 quarterback hurries. Cox began his career at Georgia before he transferred to Florida under Dan Mullen.

Cox is one of the more experienced players around, as heโ€™s appeared in 45 games since he was a freshman in 2018.

Cox made 41 tackles each in 2020 and 2021, and made 20 in 2018.

Heโ€™s started at Jack and Buck linebacker throughout his career, and started 7 games this season.
