Billy Napier at his Monday press conference confirmed Brenton Cox Jr. was dismissed from the team, and added, “We’ve decided to move on.”

“I think being a football player at the University of Florida is a privilege,” Napier said.

Napier did not share specifics about the issue, and added, “It’s a cumulative effect.” Napier also said it’s “healthy thing for our team.”

A redshirt junior, Cox leads the team with 8 tackles for loss. He has 35 tackles, 2 sacks and 9 quarterback hurries. Cox began his career at Georgia before he transferred to Florida under Dan Mullen.

Cox is one of the more experienced players around, as he’s appeared in 45 games since he was a freshman in 2018.

Cox made 41 tackles each in 2020 and 2021, and made 20 in 2018.

He’s started at Jack and Buck linebacker throughout his career, and started 7 games this season.
