Brenton Cox on Monday was announced by Billy Napier as no longer part of the Florida football program. Cox, who previously was dismissed from Georgia’s program before arriving in Gainesville, led the Gators in tackles for a loss with 8.0 while posting 35 tackles and 2.0 sacks.

On Monday evening, Cox posted a statement on his Twitter account addressing the news, expressing “shock” and “disappointment” by what happened.

“Being a part of this program and having the ability to wear the #1 jersey was an honor and privilege. I find it hard to express my disappointment in being dismissed from the team. It is truly a shock,” he wrote. “I have always had a competitive spirit. I think sometime that gets misconstrued.”

Cox also announced his future plans in football, as he will now turn his attention to preparing for the professional ranks while vowing “to work and have positive influences” as he moves forward.

“I am humbled and excited to announce that I will be declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft,” he stated. “I look forward to this next season in my life and the opportunity to make everyone proud in my professional football career!”
