Dan Mullen is known for his ability to develop quarterbacks, but that doesn’t mean his offense at Florida won’t utilize the running game.

In fact, Mullen shared his excitement about the Gators’ running backs at fall camp on Monday.

“We have some talent and depth at the running back position right now, so that’s pretty exciting,” Mullen said, according to 247sports. “What we’ve got to do is just the grasp, make sure they grasp every part of the offense.”

Florida returns its two leading rushers from last season, junior Lamical Perine (562 yards and eight touchdowns) and sophomore Malik Davis (526 yards and two touchdowns). Redshirt junior Jordan Scarlett is also back after missing all of 2017 due to being suspended for alleged credit card fraud.

With so much depth at the position, Mullen said he plans to utilize formations that can get more than one running back on the field at a time.

“We’ll have some things in we didn’t get too much into in the spring,” Mullen said, per 247sports. “We’ll have two backs on the field at different times because those guys can play. And do some different things to put them in position to get the ball in their hands.”

The Gators’ new-look offense under Mullen will make its debut on Sept. 1, when they open the season against Charleston Southern.
