On Dan Mullen’s grading scale, all three quarterbacks provided a “champion” performance during Sunday’s scrimmage.

And while the Florida coach has seen improvement in his quarterbacks, he’s not ready to name which one will start the Gators’ season opener.

While meeting with the media on Monday, Mullen said whichever quarterback is named the starter for the first game, that will be the starter moving forward. Mullen doesn’t plan on using multiple quarterbacks to figure out who should start the rest of the season.

“They graded as champions,” Mullen told the media. “They had not previously graded as champions.”

Florida’s quarterback competition is between redshirt sophomores Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask and true freshman Emory Jones. Franks is the only one of the three to have prior playing experience.

Last season, Franks played in 11 games, making eight starts and throwing for 1,438 yards and nine touchdowns.

Mullen said that he will meet with quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson later this week to discuss which of the three quarterbacks “will give them the best chance to win.”

“It’s a big curve,” Mullen told the media. “A lot of times it takes a QB a year or two to learn the offense. These guys have nine months of not just learning, but to apply it. I’m talking about a year or two of learning, and then you have to go apply it.”

The Gators open the season against Charleston Southern on Sept. 1.
