DJ Lagway won’t don the orange and blue for Florida until next fall. But the 5-star quarterback recruit from Texas, who committed Billy Napier and the Gators in December, is giving fans of his future university plenty to look forward to.

Lagway’s high school team, Willis (Tex.), took the 75-minute trip east to Bryan-College Station to face Rudder in the season opener for both programs on Friday evening.

And Lagway put on an absolute show, accounting for eight touchdowns in the first half alone. His final stat line was 19-of-21 for 425 yards as he passed for seven touchdowns and ran another one in.

Five of those touchdowns came in the first quarter alone. Take a look at one of them below:

Lagway is the centerpiece of the 2024 recruiting class for Napier. He is considered the country’s No. 27 player regardless of position and the country’s No. 4 quarterback.

Florida’s had its share of dynamic quarterbacks over the years. Will Lagway eventually be the next on the list? More nights like this one, and it might not be out of the question.
