During No. 4 Florida’s 2-0 start, the offense has generated most of the highlight plays. While fans might be divided on which Kyle is the most valuable Gator so far, ESPN analyst David Pollack recently opined that a freshman defender could be the key to Dan Mullen’s squad making a championship run.

Pollack identified defensive lineman Gervon Dexter, a 5-star prospect from Lake Wales, Florida, as a potential difference-maker.

“We talk about Florida all the time. When we talk about Florida, we talk about offense. This is a guy that you can see, Dexter could be an issue. He could be a problem,” Pollack said on his ESPN CFB Podcast with Kirk Herbstreit and Kevin Neghandi. “He’s so big. He’s physical. He’s quick. He’s got some really good gifts.

“By the end of this season, Dexter is going to have to be the best defensive lineman on Florida if Florida’s going to get to an SEC Championship or a National Championship. … Freshman, he’s a pup, but once he starts to get it, he’s going to dominate the game and he’ll be a lot of fun to watch.”

Florida entered the 2020 season lacking in experience interior defensive lineman. Dexter, listed at 6-6, 308 pounds on the official roster, has been getting snaps during Kyree Campbell’s absence.
