Florida added a new member to the Chosen 22 on Sunday with a commitment from Shemar James, a 6-foot-3 and 200-pound linebacker out of Mobile, Alabama (Faith Academy).

James is rated the No. 15 linebacker in the country by the 247Sports Composite. He is rated the No. 7 player in the state of Alabama. He has a reported 19 offers, including more than half of the SEC. He was recruited by Christian Robinson.

James is the second-highest rated Gator commitment in the Class of 2022 behind fellow 4-star Julian Humphrey. James is coming off an official visit to Florida this weekend.

The Gators are high on James athletic ability at the linebacker position and see him being able to play multiple spots. With the Gators looking to utilize his skillset, James is high on their plan for him in the future.

“In order for me to play in the NFL I need to show people that I can do multiple things besides stop the run,” he told Swamp247. “Florida is going to put me in the position to make plays and show that I can run stop and cover.”
