Florida player breaks silence after being ejected from Mizzou game for brawl
An ugly brawl broke out just before halftime in Saturday night’s Mizzou-Florida game, with 3 players — 2 Gators and 1 Tiger — getting ejected from the rest of the action.
One of those Florida players was DL Zach Carter, who was in the middle of the fracas.
On Instagram after the game, Carter apologized for his outburst, but also doubled down and said he’d defend his quarterback and his coach against anyone:

There will likely be several fines and suspensions handed down by the SEC office this week after officials review the brawl.
Will Carter be one of the players who has to miss this coming weekend’s Georgia game? We’ll see what happens moving forward.
I don’t think the SEC really wants to see UGA get spanked by Bama again and I think everyone knows a Florida/Bama matchup would be much better with them being 2 very similar teams. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens and how short handed they decide to make them next week.
Similar on offense. Defense not so much.
They are nowhere near similar on offense man. Florida’s offense is miles ahead of Georgia. There is no comparison there.
I was comparing bama & uf, smart guy.
Ok, point taken. My bad. So let’s consider that Missouri Bama game where that high flying Missouri off didn’t put a score up on Florida until the 4th quarter and that was settling for a FG. So coming off 2 weeks with no practice and a terrible defensive showing over 3 games, I’d pump the brakes on that similarity comparison conclusion just the same.
Missouri Florida game*
TigerAlum, I was thinking the same thing. He must’ve not watched the game last night. Florida seems to have dumbed down the defense and with Campbell back, it’s settled the front 7 and players are now playing the right positions, so they’ve seemed to have found the right combination, even with 3 starters out in the secondary. Even if the defense isn’t as good as they looked last night, then the offense will still make for a much better game against Bama than a UGA rematch.
@JoeMarks. Dean/Torrence/Stewart were a lot better safety combo than Davis/Stiner/Dean. Dean, if healthy, should start and play a lot more than Stiner. And Torrence played better than Davis has this season. And he is a freshman.
No doubt, I think they need to stick with the secondary they had playing last night for sure.
Although it looks like Dean may be out for a bit.
I don’t need to watch the game to know Mizzou v. bama/ uf comparison is a ridiculous argument to make for bama v. uf in the SECC game. Bama wins that game 8 out of 10 times, and BTW UGA fairs worse.
Rock, no one’s claiming the Gators will beat Bama, just that it’ll be a better matchup than a rematch with UGA.
Oh there’s no question the suspensions will be much lighter, if any at all, than if FLA was playing Arkansas next week instead of GA. I mean, I’d like to not have that opinion but Sankey doesn’t exactly exude “do the right thing no matter what”.
Congrat’s on the win btw. The way you guys came out in the second half and played defensively really snuffed out any chance for Mizzou to get back the points we basically spotted them in the 1st half. The unforced drops and fumble were the difference in the game, and FLA’s 2nd half defense kept it that way for sure.
Sorry, but the deep drop was the only unforced drop. The UF DBs were all over the Missouri receivers other than that one drop. They were being hit as soon as the ball arrived all night.
Mizzou started the game out with a drop, and it was pretty much the theme the entire 1st half. The second have FLA really clamped down on defense.
I’m loving the usage of ‘everyone’ here.
– everyone saw a&m beat uf.
– everyone saw bama easily defeat a&m.
so, why would anyone think that a bama/florida matchup would be better? using your logic, bama would win by 31 (28 + 3). uga lost to bama by 17. better?!?!
First, Florida beat Florida vs. A&M. UF likely wins if Davis does not fumble late. And comparing games never says anything about another match up. Never. UF is a better match up vs Bama because of the UF offense. At the same time, UF is a better matchup for UGA because of UGA’sdefense and UFs lack of a power running game. UF will have a difficult time beating UGA than they would Bama. But even as a UF fan, I think UGA and Bama are both better balanced teams than my Gators right now. But that will not be the case if the UF defense can slow the UGA’s running game as they did the Missouri running game. But the UGA OL and running game is a lot better and deeper than Missouri’s. If Carter and others get suspended for the game, Georgia will likely run to an easy victory. UF desperately needs Carter at SSDE to beat UGA.
Nature unfortunately I think the only sure outcome of this situation is Carter will be suspended. I counted at least 4 punches he threw.
I’m not near as hopefully of a UGA win in j,ville today as I was before the uk game. Defense got decimated with injuries and that was before Leconte crash his motorcycle. UGA will need gators to shoot themselves in the foot (repeatedly?) to beat uf, IMHO.
nature, we’re essentially in agreement. the original poster suggested that a re-match btwn uga/bama would be a worse match up than uf/bama. i utilized his flawed logic of considering past games to make future determinations to discount his position.
for the record, i don’t have much confidence that either uga or uf would beat bama, but i certainly haven’t seen anything to suggest that ‘everyone’ should come to the conclusion that uf would fare better.
plenty of re-matches have seen reverse outcomes.
– fsu v uf in ’96 reg season and nat’l champ
– bama v uf in ’08 and ’09 seccg. yes dif seasons, but both were returning powerhouses from the prev season.
– aub v uga in ’17 reg season and seccg
as i said, flawed reasoning.
P, I’m not sure how you can look at the 2 teams right now and not think Florida would give Bama a better matchup. You’re right though, there have been a few examples in the past where the outcome of the rematch’s were different, but I don’t think there’s any logical fan that actually believes UGA can turn their offense around enough to outscore Bama, unless Bama gets decimated by injuries or Covid.
Joe, I like the majority of your posts on this site. I can’t get behind the thought though that uf would necessarily give bama a better fight than uga though. sure, i might have some bias, but i certainly can’t see it as a forgone conclusion that uf would fare better.
without waddle, i’d expect uga to fare much better in a re-match than how all went down in Oct. metchie is certainly good….but he’s no waddle.
all stated, I have no idea what to expect from this wknd’s game. i could honestly see the game going in four directions. close uga win, close uf win, win by 14+ by uga and/or win by 14+ by uf.
This guy just compared Florida to bama…
Now I realize why everyone thinks Florida fans are dipsh!ts. The last few hours have been eye opening.
I see your anger has carried over to today and is still blinding you. Bama and Florida are 2 of the top offenses in the country and Bama is 65th in total defense and Florida 97th. Is there anything else you can provide that would prove they’re not similar teams or that the Gators wouldn’t give Bama a better game than UGA other than your delusional comment you just posted?
Florida fans have a right to expect that attitude Tiger. Till Nick Saban arrived at Alabama, Florida had more SEC championship game victories than any other team in the SEC. And that was only a decade ago, so it’s not as if we’re talking ancient history like Tennessee does when they mention their 2 or 3 national titles back during the Roman Empire.
27 SEC Championships
Alabama captured the first SEC title in 1933 and has won a total of 27 SEC Championships (1933, 1934, 1937, 1945, 1953, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1989, 1992, 1999, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018).
17 National Championships
Alabama (1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017)
May be their want but if choice is between the winner of sec east or A thug brawling team with a comic strip of a coach..pretty site they go with the east winner….after more players are suspended after further review of the half time wrestling match..uf May not have enough players to field a full team.
Hey, TopDawgg, if my spelling and word choice was as bad as yours, I’d spend less time worrying about other football teams, and more learning to write a legible sentence. Make my day and tell me you’re a UGA grad! Besides, you’ve always got that 40 year old Natty!
I hope the suspensions are not exaggerated but Florida definitely deserves to lose players (and HC) for the Georgia game.
Typical verbiage of a Florida Gangster (gator). Incorporating the Miami Hurricane culture. No place for it in the SEC, Mr. Carter & Coach Mullin. Shame on you!!!!
Go on, get back to your safe space. No one wants to hear from the sour Mizzou fans today.
I agree with him.
Coming from the black & gold headed step-child of the SEC, that’s real rich. Nobody really cared for the expansion in 2012, and y’all haven’t done anything to help your case. Tuck your tail between your legs and go back to the bottom tier where you belong. Good kitty.
Well, don’t mess with their QB next time maybe? I know I won’t get any popularity votes for saying this but it’s just how I feel: Schools like Vandy and Missouri are lucky to be in the SEC and I would argue they wouldn’t be without other sports, baseball and the like. Probably shouldn’t be trying to make waves against the Headliner programs by trying to take a Heisman candidate QB out in such a manner. That kinda stuff doesn’t sit to well with these programs, especially further down south.
Dont worry about it…lots of folks share your take on all this.
No one is lucky to be in the SEC, it’s not like someone pulled out of a really good parking spot and you just happened to be there. If anything the SEC, B1G and PAC was lucky Texas f’d up the Big12 and each of those 3 conferences were just sitting there doing nothing and benefited from it.
Texas screwed up the big 12,the SWC and to an extent the big 8
Many of us wish that the Missouri Whiners would have stayed in the Texas12 league. Your constant crying and negative comments about the SEC shows you wish you were still in that soft conference. What conference were y’all playing in when you last won a championship. It was in 1969 if that helps.
@darth: What conference was Mizzou in the last time they took Bear Bryant to the wood shed? Probably the same “soft” conference. Child please.
@nicktheslick: No doubt about it, they’re on quite the roll.
Joe Burrow took a few late hits during his time and nothing like this happened.
Great point. I’m sure people will find a way to excuse or explain how that’s different, but it’s not. I guess the only difference is… Dan Mullen wasn’t there to entice a brawl…
It was a cheap shot but the brawl shouldn’t have happened. I would point out that Mizzu has consistency been one of the dirtiest team in the league. I think their lack of success on the field has hid that fact.
If you think that was a “dirty” hit then you calling anyone “soft” is pot calling the kettle back. He shoved him in the chest for pete’s sake. Grow a pair darth.
Don’t compare Mizzou to Vandy. Despite having our program and recruiting pummeled by the protests of 2015, losing a very successful coach to health issues, and receiving a bogus probation we’re still on a course to be as good as anyone in the bottom half of the league. There’s Bama, Georgia, occasionally Auburn, LSU, Florida…..then everyone else. Give coach Drink 2 years, nobody will intimidate Mizzou.
Laughable, a Misery fan calling others gangsters. You got a strange take on a flop in the second half.
Mizzo fan i guess doesn’t have a problem with Mizzo staff throwing heymaker”s.
That’s my problem. As a Gator, I think Dan Mullen definitely is a LITTLE culpable for starting the fight by running out to yell at the referee, but I can understand after that vicious dirty hit to the head his QB took as time expired. The players should have been heading to the locker room and since his back was to them, I’m sort of sure that he thought they were, not right on his heels ready to rumble.
That said, zero Florida coaches threw punches in that brawl. Missouri cannot say the same thing about their coaching staff. Who the hell should be apologizing here in the first place?
Still salty Mizzou fan??? LMAO!!! Atleast our coach isnt still trying to claim” our goal, our stated goal is to win the sunbelt conference”… what a dork!!! He was taking shots at Mullen in his pre game press conference and got his A$$ Handed to him on the field!!! TAKE YOUR “L” and move along!!! Your team is closer to Vandy than UF buddy!!!
Don’t puff your chest out too much. Have you already forgotten that Mizzou had won 4 of 8 against FL before Sat. Next year we’ll do it again.
Your gangsters shouldn’t try to take out our QB with a late hit and not expect retaliation. There’s also no place for that in the SEC. I’m not sure what you were watching during that melee, but there were just as many Mizzou players as Florida players throwing punches, as well as Coach Drinkwitz on the field. Obviously, you entered the SEC without reading the small print: when you lose because your team sucked, sit down and shut up.
I just got one question. How did they pick just those 3 to eject? Cause they sure as heck weren’t the only three involved! Hell, they weren’t the only three throwing punches!!
Does the SEC think all the viewers are blind? Or is that wishful thinking cause of the UF vs UGA matchup happening Saturday? I guess suspending/fining a HC and that many players would be bad before a big game, but, this was a little more serious than retweeting a comment. Just asking…
IDK BUT THE LAST FANS THAT SHOULD BE QUESTIONING OFFICIATING IS THE AUBURN TIGERS!!! JUST SAYING!!! IM SURE ARKANSAS AND OLE MISS WOULD AGREE!!! THAT BEING SAID… Y’ALL LOOKED GREAT AGAINST LSU LAST NIGHT AND THERE IS NO DENYING WHO WON THAT GAME!!!
It isn’t the AU fan fault that bad officiating has helped their team. Just because they have benefited doesn’t mean they aren’t allowed to point out an obvious bad call. Btw, I think your all caps button is stuck.
Check you comments before you post.
All i can say is georgia had a bad game it was lucky it was a day where we played ky but next week Florida will be shut down and ill be back to show you how much so
