Florida running back Cameron Carroll was carted off the field after suffering a lower-body injury during a scrimmage on Friday, according to a report.

That news comes from On3’s Nick de la Torre, who notes that Carroll is entering his 6th season of college football.

Carroll spent the first 5 years of his collegiate career at Tulane. He was productive for the Green Wave, rushing for 1,638 yards during his time at Tulane.

However, most of that production came from 2019-21 as he missed almost all of 2022 with a leg injury.

Carroll was set to be a veteran presence and strong depth at the running back position for the Gators this season. Florida still has the tandem of Montrell Johnson Jr. and Trevor Etienne to lead the way out of the backfield.

But after Johnson and Etienne’s, Florida’s running back depth would take a significant hit if Carroll is forced to miss time. Florida’s other depth includes true freshman Treyaun Webb and JUCO transfer Ja’Kobi Jackson.

Florida opens the 2023 season against Utah on Aug. 31.
