Florida head coach Jim McElwain needs his defensive staff to do a better job this week.
McElwain wasnโt pleased with the preparation the defense got last week leading up to the Gators’ game against Vanderbilt, according to a report from GatorBait.net.
โI tell you, I don’t think we did a great job in the film-study piece with what our defensive staff gave our guys,โ McElwain said. โSome of the clues immediately based on formation. Iโm not sure we did a great job communicating thatโฆ and they took advantage of it. They did a really good job of that and weโre going to have to get that cleaned up this week.โ
McElwain noted the Gators’ tackling will need to be better this week.
โTheyโve played good defense, I think we played better. I think theyโll be the first ones to say that. And, you know, playing up to the standard,” he said.ย โNow, playing against these guys weโre going to play against this week, youโre going to have to play and grab cloth a little harder.
โYouโre going to have to do everything with just a higher sense of urgency.โ
